Krystina Lewicki has been teaching Private Individual Lessons and leading Workshops for Voice for over 10 years in The Music Room in High Park and is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).

Krystina is a passionate teacher who helps discover the beauty and power of the natural sound of their voice.  Classes cover physiology to understand how the breath, body and voice coordinate together, technical and physical exercises specifically suited to each singer's unique needs and music coaching from the repertoire(s) of the singer's choice.  Krystina is an adequate pianist and coaches singing with piano and/or your own instrument (ie. harp, guitar, percussion, etc.).

The singers in the studio range from professional musicians (pianist and cellist Michelle Kyle, harpist Kim Reynolds) and actors (Mimi Kuzyk, Tea Carini), choir members and soloists in community productions, yoga teachers (Freedom Yoga, Aum Ashram), school teachers to amateurs who love to sing. The  young singers are from the Etobicoke School of the Arts, High Park Girls' Choir and the Canadian Children's Opera Company.

Krystina is the vocal coach for many high school musical productions, and leads voice workshops, masterclasses and has adjudicated for NATS.  Many students participate in Royal Conservatory Voice exams, Music Festivals, and receive excellent results.  All students are invited to participate in the annual June Spring Recital.

W
ORKSHOPS:
Alignment, Breath and Voice Production:
This is an integral component of every workshop and every class:
Body Posture (and exercises to help alignment)
Finding and experiencing the full capacity of the lungs
Directing the different speeds of the breath, both on inhale and exhale
Coordination of the breath with the release of sound
Discovery of all resonances (low, mid, upper)
Shaping the 5 fundamental vowel sounds

Sounding the Chakras with Vowels and Seed Sounds
Participants learn and practice coordinating breathing and sounding the body through chakra vowels and seed sounds, chants, mantras and songs.  Drone and percussion instruments are played to help focus and enhance harmonized sounds and for finding and experiencing how to channel the vibrations through energy centres of the body.  The power of the vibration of our own voice helps to restore a natural homeostasis within the nervous system and entire physical body.

The human voice is linked to the 5th chakra of communication through the throat and when connected with the heart through breath, thought, sound and word, opens our heart and allows one's expressive ability with self and others to resonate with a deeper truth.  This practice can lead to deeper and clearer relationships, spiritual growth, creative expression and personal transformation.

Sinnging Chant and Sacred Medieval Music:
Specialized classes and workshops in Hildegard von Bingen chants, Codex Calixtinus, songs from the Cantigas de Santa Maria, Llibre Vermel de Montserrat, Codex Las Huelgas, Troubadour, Trouvere and Minnesinger.
The fundamental premise of performing/singing chant and song is based on communicating the text in the natural rhythmic underlay of the words and poetry.

Although chant is considered a monoponic practise, there exists two unified but distinguishable elements of melody and text.  Melody, through the sounds of vowels, carries human emotional meaning and, punctuated by consonants, both voiced and voiceless, articulates the rhythmic form and gives meaning to the prayer, hymn of thanksgiving, or story.  Each of these compononents of the music move through time and space on their own rhythmic journey, joining at the matrix of pure divine thought and form in creative manifestations which transend the body and magnify vibrations of prayer, in which we are both speaking to the divine as our inner souls are being massaged through vibration and heart intention, alone, or in community.
